Spiced sugar

    Great at Christmas or to jazz up breakfast. I like to sprinkle it on muesli, would be lovely in porridge, too.

    Makes: 500 g

    • zest of 1 orange
    • zest of 1 lemon
    • 3 whole cloves
    • grated nutmeg (as desired)
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 vanilla pod, seeds scraped
    • 500g caster sugar

    1. Put the zest, spices and vanilla seeds in a food processor and blitz.
    2. Once blended add the sugar and whizz again, only for a few seconds. Tip it into a bowl and give it a final mix.
    3. Spread the sugar onto a baking tray and leave to air dry before driving it into an airtight container.
    4. Sprinkle onto the top of vanilla buns, baked bananas or anything else you fancy.
