Granny's chocolate loaf cake

    This lovely chocolate loaf cake has no bells and whistles. It is simply flavourful, rich and satisfying - all you need from a good chocolate loaf cake!

    Serves: 8 

    • 150g self raising flour
    • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 60g ground almonds
    • 200g butter
    • 175g brown sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil
    • 100g Greek yoghurt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a 900g loaf tin and line with baking parchment.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, sift in the flour then add the cocoa powder, baking powder and ground almonds. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and the sugar until pale and fluffy then add the eggs, beating well after each addition. Add the oil, yoghurt and vanilla extract. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and smooth the top.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 to 80 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 1 hour prior to slicing and serving.
