Makes: 3 to 4 large pizza bases

  • 1kg strong white bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 14g dried yeast
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 650ml lukewarm water
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

  1. Sieve the flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Mix the sugar, yeast, olive oil and water in a jug. Add the mixture to the flour and salt. Mix until a ball forms.
  2. On a lightly floured work surface, continue by kneading until springy and smooth. Leave at room temperature for 1 hour.
  3. After an hour, preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6.
  4. Divide the dough into three or four equal portions. Roll and stretch out the pizza dough to large circles, or other desired shape. (You can also divide the dough further to make smaller individual pizzas.)
  5. Add your favourite toppings, then bake for up to 20 minutes, or till the cheese has melted and the base is cooked through in the centre.
