Mix the butter and caster sugar together. Stir in the golden syrup. Sift in the flour and mix till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs; then gather and knead into a ball of dough.
Split into 6 equal portions, roll into balls and place onto a baking tray. Pat down the balls slightly so they will become more biscuit shaped (do not flatten completely).
Place in the oven. Keep an eye on the biscuits as depending on your oven they can be ready in between 5 to 20 minutes. When they are golden brown insert a skewer, if the skewer comes out clean they are ready to be placed onto a cooling rack.
If making these with plain flour and baking powder instead of self raising flour add an extra teaspoon of baking powder than normal as I find they tend not to hold their shape very well otherwise.
