This vibrant and flavourful German red cabbage recipe was given to us by a friend in Berlin. Freezer friendly and delicious alongside pork or poultry, serve hot or cold.

Ingredients
Serves: 12
900g red cabbage, shredded
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
2 cooking apples - peeled, cored and chopped finely
3 tablespoons caster sugar
6 whole cloves
4 tablespoons dry cider
1 tablespoon salted butter
salt and pepper, to taste

Preheat the oven to 150 C / Gas 2.
Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Transfer to a baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours until the cabbage is tender and the flavours have infused together. Remove from the oven and enjoy warm or allow to cool to room temperature.
