In a large frying pan over a medium heat, warm the coconut oil and add the chicken hearts. Cook and stir for 5 to 6 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and chop in a food processor. Set aside.
In the same pan, add the minced chicken or turkey and cook and stir for 8 to 10 minutes until evenly white throughout and no longer pink in the centre.
Meanwhile, add all the vegetables and fruits to a food processor and blend until finely chopped.
Add the hearts back to the cooked chicken mince and stir. Spoon the vegetables into the chicken and heart mixture and cook and stir gently for 5 to 7 minutes until the vegetables have cooked lightly. Remove from the heat and allow to cool fully. Divide into portions and serve.
The yield from this recipe will feed my 14lb dog about 20 meals. I tend to freeze two portions at once so that I can remove and defrost easily per day.
Although this meal is well balanced, I always supplement meals with a variety of vitamins, minerals and oils based on my dog's unique needs.
