Preheat the oven to 160 C / fan 140 C / Gas 2/3. Grease a 22cm cake tin and line with baking parchment.
In a saucepan over a medium heat combine the butter, golden syrup and sugar and stir until melted.
In a separate bowl, mix together the porridge oats and flour and add them to the mix, followed by the egg and milk. Mix well then transfer to the prepared baking tin.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before slicing and serving. Drizzle with a little extra golden syrup if desired.
