Here's a cosy start to a winter's day. This spicy cinnamon porridge, with its cargo of rich apricots, is sweetened with golden syrup. Best of all, it takes only minutes to prepare.

40 g (1½ oz) instant porridge oats
200 ml (7 fl oz) skimmed milk
4 ready-to-eat dried apricots
2 teaspoons golden syrup
A pinch of ground cinnamon

Simmer the porridge oats and milk together in a small saucepan for 4-5 minutes until the mixture is slightly thickened and smooth, stirring frequently. If necessary, add a little water to get the texture you prefer.
Meanwhile, chop the apricots.
Stir the syrup and ground cinnamon into the porridge. Pour the porridge into a bowl, sprinkle the chopped apricots on top and serve.
Variation: replace the apricots with a small chopped banana. You can also sprinkle four chopped hazelnuts over the porridge for extra crunch, but this will add 3 g of fat.
