In a frying pan over a medium heat, warm the oil then add the onion and cook and stir until soft, about 4 to 6 minutes. Add the garlic, tomatoes, basil and pepper and allow to simmer gently for 30 minutes until the sauce has reduced and thickened. Remove from the heat and use or store in an airtight container in the fridge until needed.
