Kirstyn's slow cooker Chinese pork steak stew

    Succulent slow cooked pork in a Chinese style stew. Serve with some fluffy rice or with some roasted baby pak choi.

    Serves: 4 

    • 500ml water
    • 1 large onion, chopped
    • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
    • 1 carrot, chopped
    • 1 small bag mangetout
    • 1 handful baby corn
    • 4 boneless pork steaks
    • 1 tablespoon Chinese Five Spice
    • 1 chicken stock cube
    • 1 vegetable stock cube
    • 120ml soya sauce
    • salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
    • 1 level tablespoon peanut butter
    • 2 teaspoons cornflour

    1. Preheat the slow cooker to Low setting.
    2. Pour the water into the slow cooker then add the onion, garlic and vegetables followed by the pork steaks, spices, stock cubes, soya sauce, seasoning, tomato puree and peanut butter.
    3. Cook on low setting for 6 hours stirring now and again, until the pork is tender and no longer pink in the centre.
    4. An hour before the end of cooking time, dissolve the cornflour in a little water and stir until there are no lumps then pour this into the slow cooker to thicken. Once thickened, serve hot.
