Green smoothie with maca powder

    Fresh spinach leaves, avocado, almond butter and maca powder come together in this energising green smoothie. No sugar in sight. It is sweetened naturally with pineapple and bananas. This serves two.

    Serves: 2 

    • 330g chopped frozen pineapple
    • 30g fresh spinach
    • 1 frozen chopped banana
    • 1/2 avocado
    • 2 tablespoons almond butter
    • 1 teaspoon maca powder
    • 700ml water

    1. Place pineapple, banana, spinach, avocado, almond butter and maca powder in a blender; pour in water. Blend until smooth.


    Get ahead by storing individual portions of sliced banana and pineapple in small sealed food bags in your freezer.


    Maca is a root vegetable native to South America. You can find the powdered form in most health stores and in some of the larger supermarkets.

    Yet another wonderful smoothy from the Smoothie Goddess. I admit I used fresh banana and pineapple instead of frozen so I replaced the water for ice. I really enjoyed it. The almond butter is delicate yet distinct and just enough to set this apart from your usual smoothie. I also like the velvet texture created by the avocado without hijacking flavour in any way.
