Halloween meatball mummies

This is a really easy recipe that kids can help you to make before a Halloween party! The most fun job is definitely winding the pastry around the meatballs to make the mummies!

    1 person made this

    Makes: 40 mummy meatballs

    • 2 sheets puff pastry
    • about 40 frozen small beef meatballs
    • a little ketchup (for the eyes)
    • 1 jar tomato sauce

    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Extra time:10min cooling  ›  Ready in:1hr

    1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
    2. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured work surface, then using a pizza slicer or sharp knife cut long thin strips in the pastry about 5mm wide (length does not really matter but the longer they are the easier it will be to wrap around the meatball).
    3. Wind the pastry around the meatballs like a mummy, leaving a space for the eyes. Place the meatballs on a baking tray lined with baking parchment.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the meatballs are hot through and no longer pink in the centre (if previously uncooked). While the mummies are cooking, heat the tomato sauce and pour into a small bowl.
    5. Place the mummies onto a serving plate and dot two red eyes on each with the ketchup. Allow to cool a little before serving. Serve with cocktail sticks for dipping the meatballs in the tomato sauce. Happy Halloween!
