About this recipe: Combine autumn's bounty of apples and cranberries into a delicious preserve that can be bottled for Christmas dinner.

  • 125g (4 1/2 oz) dessert apples
  • 75g (2 3/4 oz) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 100ml (3 1/2 fl oz) fresh orange juice
  • 100g (3 1/2 oz) sugar

  1. Peel, core and dice the apples and put the pieces into a saucepan with the other ingredients. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring frequently, for 20 minutes, or until the preserve has thickened and blended together. Cool to room temperature (about 30 minutes) before serving.
