Butternut squash baby food

    A simple butternut squash puree is a great choice for one of your baby's first foods. Freeze the puree in an ice cube tray for easy access later!

    Ingredients
    Serves: 10 

    • 1 butternut squash, halved and seeded
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Brush the cut sides of the butternut squash with olive oil. Place the butternut squash cut side down on a baking tray.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven and cook for about 45 minutes, or until the squash is soft.
    4. Scrape out the butternut squash, leaving the skin behind. Transfer to a blender or food processor. Puree till smooth.
    5. Serve once cool, or to freeze for later: fill an ice cube tray with the squash puree. Freeze for at least 2 hours, till solid. Remove cubes from tray and place in a freezer bag. To defrost, place in microwave for 30 seconds, or as needed.

    Idea

    For a thinner puree, add breast milk, formula or water to reach your desired consistency.
