Carrot broccoli baby food

    30 min

This is a great combination for growing babies (6 to 9 months or older). You can mix up the veg with what's in season or what you have around the house. I like to use green beans instead of broccoli sometimes. I make sure I label my freezer bag with the date I made it!

    Makes: 12 portions

    • 275g chopped carrots
    • 185g broccoli florets
    • 120ml breast milk
    • 120ml water

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and fill with water to just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring water to the boil. Add carrots and broccoli, cover and steam until tender, about 20 minutes.
    2. Place carrots, broccoli, breast milk and water in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove any lumps. Serve once cooled.
    3. To freeze for later: spread carrot-broccoli mixture into an ice cube tray, cover with cling film and freeze until solid, 2 to 3 hours. Transfer frozen cubes to a resealable plastic bag and store in the freezer. To serve, heat cubes in the microwave until warm but not hot, about 30 seconds.

You can substitute formula or water for the breast milk.
Store frozen cubes in the freezer for up to 2 months.

I would give it 5 stars because the carrots give it a sweet flavor that most babies like. However, 20 minutes is about half the time it takes for carrots to soften. Where as broccoli does not take as long as carrots to soften. I would not steam these together again. Do carrots and then broccoli and then blend them together.  -  22 Oct 2014  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
