Casquinha de siri (Brazilian stuffed crab shells)

    This is a popular seafood starter in Brazil, often served at the bars near the ocean. Typically, it is served in crab shells but you can use small, shallow ramekins instead.

    Serves: 6 

    • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • 500g soft crab meat
    • 1/2 bunch fresh coriander, chopped
    • 1/2 bunch spring onions, chopped
    • 2 tomatoes, blended
    • 4 tablespoons coconut milk
    • salt and pepper, to taste
    • lime wedges for serving

    1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat; stir in garlic and onion and cook until soft. Add crab meat, coriander, spring onions, tomatoes and coconut milk; simmer for 15 minutes or until the liquid reduces down (without drying out). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    2. Divide mix into crab shells or ramekins. Serve hot with a lime wedge on the side.
