Slow cooker Philly steak sandwich

    Perfectly seasoned beef made in the slow cooker. Perfect for making Philly cheese steak sandwiches to serve with a cold beer! To serve, gently fry some sliced onion and sliced green pepper in a pan. Place meat on long rolls and top with onion and green pepper and Swiss cheese. Leave open-faced and grill until the cheese just starts to brown.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1/2 large onion, sliced
    • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 450g beef sirloin, cut into bite-size strips, or more to taste
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
    • 2 tablespoons bourbon whisky
    • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon hot chilli sauce
    • 1 (340ml) bottle beer
    • 2 beef stock cubes

    Method

    1. Spread onion and garlic on the bottom of a slow cooker; layer beef over onion and garlic. Sprinkle cumin, black pepper, chilli powder, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, marjoram and basil over beef; top with bourbon, soy sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and hot chilli sauce. Pour beer over beef mixture and add stock cubes.
    2. Cook on Low, stirring every hour or so, for 8 hours (or High for 4 hours).

    I did not make this recipe, however I am from Philly and a true Philly Cheese Steak uses paper thin meat, not 1 cm or 1 inch or 2inches. The meat is sliced on a meat slicer you can almost see thru the meat....for those who like their Philly CS with thick meat it should be called Imitation of a Philly Cheese Steak...LOL...only a true eater of Philly Cheese Steaks who is from Philly really knows the difference......the one star was only for the thickness of the steak. I also want to say that when I first moved over to NJ I could not find a true Philly Cheese steak but if you really want the original, try going to south Philly where they use Cheese Whiz, if it is still sold instead of provolone.....Now here in CA, I have found a place where they know how to make a today Philly Cheese Steak...at last.  -  30 Jul 2017  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
