Awesome cheese straws

    These cheese straws are awesome. I make these all the time for my family and they love them. So simple to make.

    Makes: 1 dozen

    • 150g self-raising flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 25g butter
    • 100g finely grated Cheddar cheese
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tablespoons milk

    1. Pre-heat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Grease a baking tray.
    2. Next, sift the flour and salt, then add the butter and rub it with your fingers to make crumbs.
    3. Add all the cheese, mix to combine. Add the egg and milk to make a dough.
    4. Once dough is formed, roll out on a lightly floured surface until it is as thick as your little finger. Cut using a blunt knife into strips. Lift the strips onto your greased baking tray.
    5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until they are golden. Once out of oven, wait to cool, then simply ENJOY!


    You can make these cheese straws wheat-free if you desire by using wheat-free self-raising flour instead (I would recommend Doves Farm gluten free flour, this worked well with the recipe).
