Orange star biscuits

    Easy Christmas biscuits that taste wonderfully of orange. Make sure you crush the vanilla sugar and zest together well to get the best infused flavour.

    Makes: 50 biscuits

    • 300g butter, softened
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 180g caster sugar
    • 500g plain flour
    • 3 teaspoons vanilla sugar
    • 1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest

    1. Beat together the butter, 1 tablespoon orange zest, salt and sugar until light and fluffy.
    2. Add the flour and knead until smooth. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours.
    3. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.
    4. Roll out the mixture 1cm thick on a floured work surface. Cut out biscuits with star shaped cutters and place on the baking tray. Bake until golden brown, 13 to 15 minutes.
    5. In a bowl crush together the vanilla sugar with 1 teaspoon zest until mixed well. Dip the top side of the biscuits in the sugar while still warm.
