Macaroni Cheese

Ingredients
Serves : 6
50g (2 oz) butter
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
750ml (1¼ pints) milk
225g (8 oz) uncooked macaroni
175g (6 oz) grated mature Cheddar cheese
Preparation method
Prep:

Cook: 20 mins
1.
Melt butter in a saucepan pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft. Stir in flour and salt.
2.
Add milk and macaroni to saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 15 minutes or until pasta is tender, stirring occasionally.
3.
Add cheese and stir until cheese melts. Serve.

20 mins cooking time, yeah right! Try doubling it, me thinks I should have boiled the pasta first.

I made this for my sons and they loved it. I agree with the comments regarding the flour, it was very thick. I ended up hving to add more milk and some water in orderto cook the pasta. I will try and use cooked pasta the next time I make this.

i recommend pre cooking the macaroni as the sauce dried up before the pasta was finished cooking

made this gluten free, with doves gf pasta and flour, added, wholegrain mustard wochester sauce and gf hot dogs, was excellent

Altered ingredient amounts.
I didn't put too much flour, it was thick enough as it was. Also, to make it healthier I put less butter.

I have just finished eating this now, found it VERY easy to make, and it tasted really good I added pepper to mine and used more onion than in the recipe. really good recipe though, thanks very much

I added cherry tomatoes and a little mozzeralla. Fabulously old fashioned sunday supper, great for a hangover.
