Sticky and Saucy Chinese noodles

    These warming authentic sticky and saucy noodles are ideal for a quick and healthy lunch or dinner perfect with homemade dumplings or on their own. This dish is a perfect combination of umami and sweetness with that undeniable oriental taste.

    • 2tbsp Sesame Oil
    • 2tbsp Soy Sauce (light or dark)
    • 2tbsp of Sugar or Honey
    • 2Tbsp Rice Vinegar
    • 2 Chicken Stock Cubes
    • 1 tbsp Chinese five Spice
    • 1/2 Tsp Chilli Flakes
    • 1 Spring Onion (scallion)
    • 2 noodle nests (ideally wholemeal)


    1. Boil a kettle
    2. Finely slice the spring onion (scallion) and set aside for garnish
    3. Dissolve the she stock cubes in 400ml boiled water and set aside- this is your stock
    4. In a bowl combine together the rice vinegar, soy sauce and sesame oil along with the chilli flakes and set aside- this is your umami base
    5. Add the stock AND the umami base to a saucepan and over a medium heat and stir in the sugar and five spice and bring to the boil
    6. When the broth is boiling add the noodles of your choice
    7. Cover and cook for 4 minutes or until the noodles have a bite.
    8. Serve in a bowl and garnish with the spring onions. (Scallions)
