In a bowl beat butter with sugar and vanilla sugar till creamy. Stir in egg.
In a bowl mix flour and baking powder and gradually add to butter mixture. Swiftly knead mixture till it holds together. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. The mixture is easier to roll out when firm.
Preheat oven to 175 C . Gas 4. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper or a silicone baking mat.
On a lightly floured surface thinly roll out mixture and cut out biscuits in your favourite shapes.
Bake in the preheated oven till lightly coloured, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer biscuits to a wire rack using a spatula, they break easily whilst still warm. Let cool completely before decorating.
