Turmeric black pepper smoothie

    Turmeric should always be mixed with a little black pepper so it can have its full healthy effect. I peel the turmeric root under running water so my hands don't turn yellow. If I cannot find ripe mango, I use raspberries instead.

    Serves: 2 

    • 1 ripe mango, or 1 handful frozen raspberries
    • 2cm piece fresh turmeric root, peeled
    • 4cm fresh root ringer, peeled
    • 250ml chilled orange juice
    • 2 small bananas
    • freshly ground black pepper
    • ice cubes (optional)

    1. Peel mango and remove stone. Slice turmeric root and ginger root thinly and add with all other ingredients except ice cubes to a blender. Puree till smooth and thin with water if desired. Blend again for a few seconds.
    2. Put ice cubes in 2 tall jars and pour smoothie on top.
