Hot chocolate mud cake

    Easy and quick to make recipe for a delicious dessert with hot chocolate topping.

    Serves: 8 

    • 125g butter
    • 175g caster sugar
    • 2 medium eggs
    • 6 tbsp cocoa powder
    • 300g self raising flour
    • 200ml milk
    • 350g chocolate spread, such as Nutella┬«

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Line or flour and grease a 20cm / 8 in round cake tin.
    2. Cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Sift flour and cocoa together into bowl and fold in alternately with milk.
    3. Pour into cake tin and bake for 1 hour and 10 mins or until skewer comes out clean.
    4. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack. Slice into 3 layers and fill layers with chocolate spread. Heat remaining spread for the sauce and pour over your slice of cake.

    Very tasty, but I'd recommend checking cake after 45mins, it can dry out quite quicky. Added whipped cream to layers for a childs birthday cake and it was very good.  -  08 Aug 2012
