    Pain perdu is the French version of French toast.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 2 

    • 1 large egg
    • 120ml milk
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 4 brioche or thick sliced white bread
    • 20g butter
    • icing sugar
    • fresh fruit (berries, peaches)

    Method

    1. In a shallow plate large enough to hold the bread slices, beat egg, milk and vanilla with a fork. Place bread in the mixture and let it soak, turning it over once.
    2. Heat butter in a large frying pan. Fry bread till golden brown on each side, 3 to 5 minutes on each side.
    3. Serve dusted with icing sugar and fresh fruit.
