This moderately spicy curry is made with rohu fish and plantains. A substitute for rohu (also called rui) is chunks of cod or another white meaty fish.

100ml cooking oil
1 tablespoon onion paste or minced onion
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon hot chilli powder
1 teaspoon ground coriander
5 pieces ruhu fillet
minced coriander leaves
4 fresh green chilies, chopped

Peel plantains and cut length wise into 4 to 5 slices.
Heat oil in a large saucepan and add the onion, ginger and garlic pastes, salt, turmeric, chilli and coriander. Stir then add the fish pieces. Add 120ml water and simmer, covered, over low heat till the water has evaporated and oil starts to float on top, about 10 minutes..
Remove fish pieces and place on a plate. Add the plantain slices. Return the fish pieces and add 450ml water.
Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
Sprinkle with fresh coriander and green chilies. Simmer for 5 further more minutes. Serve with plain white rice.
