  3. Place a small amount of sauce mixture in the bottom of a lasagne dish. Place 4 uncooked lasagne sheets on top of sauce and top with layer of sauce. Add 4 more sheets and layer with 1/2 sauce and 1/2 cheese mixture, then lasagne sheets and repeat until all is layered, finishing with sauce.
  4. Cover with aluminium foil and bake in a preheated oven for 55 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes. Let sit 10 minutes before serving.

Parmesan cheese

Parmesan cheese is not truly vegetarian, as it contains animal rennet. To make this dish 100% vegetarian, omit the cheese or find a suitable vegetarian substitute made without animal rennet. In supermarkets look for the 'parmesan style hard cheeses' which are suitable for vegetarians.

Delicious recipe! My husband even said this was the best lasagne I've made. I substituted quark for the cottage cheese, and used cheddar instead of mozzarella. Still turned out fabulous! - 10 Nov 2010
