Apple and Strawberry Crumble

    This dessert is a twist on the classic apple crumble. Apples are baked with strawberries under a delicious crumbly topping. Serve with cream, ice cream or custard.

    Serves: 4 

    • 3 apples
    • 1/2-3/4 punnet strawberries
    • 85g margarine, cubed
    • 175g plain flour
    • 85g dark brown soft sugar

    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:50min 

    1. Preheat oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
    2. Rub margarine into flour until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar.
    3. Peel, core and thinly slice apples. Transfer to a 20cm x 20cm dish.
    4. Hull strawberries and halve. Add to the dish on top of the apples.
    5. Scatter crumble on top and gently smooth over. Try not to press down.
    6. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.

    Great recipe, could maybe do with some more crumble topping, I'll increase the crumble ingredients next time I mnake it.  -  25 Sep 2011
