Preheat oven to 160 C.
Gently soften the onions in the oil and add the sausages to the pan to brown.
Transfer the sausages and onions to a large casserole dish. Add all the other ingredients and mix well, being careful not to break the sausages. Cover with a lid or foil and put in oven for at least an hour but can sit there quite happily for 2!
10 mins before serving, turn the oven onto grill and sprinkle the cheese over the top of the casserole. Grill until bubbling and slightly browned. Serve with boiled rice/potatoes, baked potatoes, potato skins, chips, mash or just big chunks of fresh bread and butter!
Also fab made with vege sausages, or with some added chopped bacon if you have some!
This recipe is easy and really tasty! I used 30% less fat sausages just because I'm trying to be good and a lower fat cheese but this did not affect the flavour. Use Branston beans as they have a richer flavour. A great hearty winter supper. - 16 Jan 2017
