Perfect for feeding a crowd at a summer barbecue, this is a tasty twist on the classic American recipe for baked beans. The variety of beans used gives the dish great flavour, along with the streaky bacon. Try this for a break from the ordinary. If you don't have French's mustard to hand, substitute half a tablespoon of English mustard.
Reckon I've never seen so many darn kind of beans in a baked bean dish! Shoot, I just use a couple cans of pork-n-beans and a little ketchup, mustard (none of that Dijon stuff mind you), brown sugar, and green bell pepper. I see you used the onion which I give you two thumbs up on, but what in tar-nation is treacle? Also, I don't get too high falutin with the meat. I just toss in a couple thick slices of good ol' bacon. I'll have to try that pancetta stuff though. Good recipe! Thank ya kindly for sharin' it. - 13 Aug 2011
This recipe is good, but I have to point out that it is not the kind of 'baked beans' common in the US. more accurate recipes for traditional homemade 'Baked Beans' (US style), search for 'Boston Baked Beans', 'BBQ Beans', or for a spicier variety 'Texas Beans.' - 22 Nov 2012
While I have not made this recipe, being from the Northeastern region of the USA where baked beans are a Saturday night staple, this recipe is definitely not what we would use here. That is not to say that this recipe wouldn't taste good, but if you really want traditional New England style baked beans, look elsewhere. - 03 Aug 2017
