Worm cupcakes

    30 min

A favourite at kids' Halloween parties. Use a shop bought choc cake mix and icing if you're pressed for time, or use your own cake and icing recipes to prepare these cupcakes from scratch.

    Serves: 24

    • 1 packet chocolate muffin mix
    • 325g chocolate biscuit crumbs
    • 1 tub chocolate frosting
    • 1 packet 'Wummis' (gummy worms)

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Prepare cake mix according to packet directions. Pour mixture into muffin tins and bake as directed on cake mix box. Let cupcakes cool thoroughly before icing.
    2. Spread cupcakes lightly with chocolate frosting. Sprinkle biscuit crumbs on top.
    3. Cut gummi worms in half (as many as you like). Put icing onto cut end of the worms and stick to the top of cupcakes. You can use as few or as many as will fit on each cupcake. Let icing set for 10 minutes and then enjoy.

    To make from scratch...

If you want to avoid the shop bought stuff, you can try this chocolate fairy cake recipe and this gorgeous chocolate buttercream for the icing.

Just made these for a halloween party tonight and they look great, sure the kids are going to love them!  -  29 Oct 2011

These are cute. I made them for a kids' Spring party. I used two worms on each cupcake -- 1 across the middle, and 1 cut in half with each half sticking in opposite sides of the cupcake (looks like a worm going in under and coming out from under the other worm). The kids thought they were "cool." My cake mix yielded 18 cupcakes. I barely used 1 cup of "dirt" crumbs.  -  27 Mar 2003  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
