About this recipe: A delicious cottage pie that I have made for family and friends and everyone loves it, one of my husband's favourites!

Serves: 4 

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 450g minced beef
  • 150ml beef stock
  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 teaspoons gravy granules
  • 375g mashed potatoes

Prep:20min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Extra time:10min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add the onion and fry for 5 minutes. Add the beef and fry for 5 minutes or until it loses its pinkness.
  2. Add stock, tomato ketchup, Worcester sauce, herbs, parsley and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 20 minutes.Then add the gravy granules to colour and slightly thicken.
  3. Transfer to a greased ovenproof dish, and top with mashed potatoes and bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 180 C / Gas 4, till golden on top and bubbly.
  4. Serve with lots of fresh veg; cauliflower cheese goes especially well with this!
