No hassle steak pie

    This is a hassle free way of making steak pie, hassle-free because no pie is 'actually' made! This is a cheap and tasty recipe, very comforting on a cold night! It also doesn't contain onions, so I make this a lot when my mum comes for dinner, because she doesn't like them!

    Serves: 4 

    • 500g (1 1/4 lb) stewing steak, cubed
    • 600ml (1pt) of beef stock, made with a stock cube
    • 4 to 5 teaspoons gravy granules
    • salt
    • shop bought puff pastry (as needed)
    • 4 tablespoons milk, to glaze pastry

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Brown the stewing steak in a frying pan, then transfer to a casserole dish.
    2. Make a pint of beef stock using the stock cube, then stir in the gravy granules, using 4 to 5 teaspoons depending on your preference. Add some salt to season. Pour stock mix over the browned stewing steak.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for about an hour.
    4. Meanwhile, roll out the puff pastry and cut four pieces into your desired size and shape. Brush the milk over the pastry for a glaze. Put the pastry slices on a baking tray and bake near the top of the oven halfway during the cooking time of the steak.
    5. When ready, spoon the steak onto the plates and place a puff pastry slice on top of each portion. Serve with mash or chips and seasonal veg.
