I always used to run to the kitchen when I was little and my mum was cooking this for tea. Another one of her family's simpler recipes, this makes for a very cheesey treat in winter time, just serve it up with some crusty bread and Bob's your mother's brother! I find it always tastes better with a mild rather than a mature Cheddar. I have also suggested white potatoes, as I prefer their texture in this recipe. But this is also up to your own personal taste (or whatever's in your cupboard!).
Used different ingredients. Try using some good chicken stock instead of the water, it makes a big difference to the flavour. - 23 Feb 2010
