Sweet boiled Gammon

    So easy!! Gammon boiled in tonic water. This was a tip passed on to me by my mother, via her friends mother!! Reduces the salt content plus there is no added fat. End result is a healthy succulent and sweet gammon joint.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 Gammon Joint
    • 2 pints Water
    • 1 bottle Tonic water

    Prep:5min  ›  Cook:1hr  ›  Ready in:1hr5min 

    1. place gammon joint in large saucepan & just cover with tap water
    2. Bring to the boil and boil rapidly for 10 minutes
    3. Dispose of water
    4. Return gamon to saucepan and just cover with tonic water. Bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer for anything from 1 - 3 hours depending on size of gammon joint.
    5. Serving suggestions: serve either hot with cauliflower cheese and peas or cold in sandwiches or with salad.


    If its a large joint you can replace the tonic water halfway through cooking

    Altered ingredient amounts. cover the gammon in cheap cola,making sure it covers , no need to boil in water first!  -  02 Nov 2010
