A classic sauce, one of the trimmings Christmas dinner would be unthinkable without! I learned this recipe 20 years ago and it never fails. My whole family love it and know it must be Christmas if I make it!

1.
Stud the peeled onion with the whole cloves and poach gently in the milk with bay leaves until soft. Remove bay leaves and discard.
2.
Blend onion, milk and cloves together until smooth then add as many fresh white breadcrumbs as needed to achieve the consistency you like.
3.
Season with salt and pepper and stir in butter. Serve warm.
Tip
Bread sauce will keep in the fridge for about three days, I use the leftovers in turkey sandwiches - delicious!
