About this recipe: This is a soup/stew that my Mum used to make when her housekeeping money was running low. I am pretty sure that other families all over the Potteries had it too. She used to tell us that when she was young her mother made the dish with little (or no meat) when money was tight.
Like so many other soup/stew type dishes it tastes even better the day after it is made. My Dad always seasoned his with vinegar.
My husband is a Stokie and he loves lobby although he doesn't like the pearl barley so I just left it out! - 19 Nov 2010
