Bread Machine Italian Breadsticks

    My family just love these easy breadsticks, perfect to serve with pasta, pizza, soups etc. If you want a plain breadstick just omit the italian herbs.

    Makes: 24 breadsticks

    • 315ml warm water (45 degrees C)
    • 45g butter, softened
    • 550g bread flour
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 40g sugar
    • 15g dried milk powder
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons active dried baking yeast
    • 4 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons Italian herb seasoning

    1. Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Dough cycle; press Start. Lightly grease two baking trays.
    2. Preheat oven to 190 C / gas 5. When dough cycle is complete, remove dough to a lightly oiled surface. Divide dough into 18 pieces. Roll each piece on an oiled board, from centre of piece to the outside edges to form bread sticks. Place bread sticks at least 2j to 3cm apart on the prepared tins.
    3. Add herb seasoning to the olive oil and brush on to the top of the breadsticks. (If you would prefer just plain breadsticks, just omit this stage.)
    4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

    Other ideas

    To make the breadsticks a little crispier I spray the breadsticks lightly with water when in the oven, you will need to spray them twice during the first 5 minutes.
