Cumin-Spiced Lamb Burgers

About this recipe: This recipe blends the flavours of cumin and lamb into one delicious burger. They are really tasty and super-easy to make. You can also cook these burgers on the barbecue, when the sun is finally out.

Makes: 4 burgers

  • 450g minced lamb
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint leaves or 1 tablespoon dried mint
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano or 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sherry
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon black treacle
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 pitta breads
  • 115g feta cheese, crumbled

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:25min 

  1. Preheat barbecue for medium heat.
  2. Place the lamb in a large bowl and mix with the mint, coriander, oregano, garlic, sherry, vinegar and black treacle. Season with cumin, allspice, crushed chillies, salt and black pepper; mix well. Shape into 4 burgers.
  3. Brush barbecue grid with oil. Barbecue burgers 5 minutes on each side or until well done. Heat the pitta pocket briefly on the barbecue. Serve burgers wrapped in pittas with feta cheese.

Alternative cooking methods

Cook the burgers in a frying pan or on the grill.
