Make your own fresh custard for pouring over puddings or to use in tarts, trifle or as a base for homemade ice cream.
Made with egg yolks and vanilla, it tastes just wonderful. Adding a little cornflour helps to stabilise the mixture and prevent it from curdling.
For years I used custard powder... but one day I tried to make custard myself. It's really easy to make and with this recipe, no lumps and no worries!
This is my recipe for homemade custard. It is low fat as it uses skimmed milk, and it is a doddle to make in just 5 or 6 minutes and turns out perfect every time. Even great to make ahead, then chill in the fridge and warm up in the microwave... absolutely yummy!
This is a tried and true chocolate custard recipe, easily made and totally foolproof! Use your favourite good quality plain choc, and only add the cornflour if you want it thicker.
This custard is excellent with sponge pudding or with our favourite croissant bread pudding. It's pourable or spoon-able. To prevent a lumpy or scorched pudding use a heavy bottomed saucepan and stir CONSTANTLY. Do not walk away while this is cooking.
